All West Virginia students in grades K-12 can participate in the 2024 Almost Heaven Governor’s Art Exhibition. Included are all public, private and home school students.
Entries are currently being accepted, and the deadline for submissions is Dec. 13 (hand-delivered or postmarked no later than Dec. 6). Only one entry may be submitted per student.
Designed to showcase student creativity and the arts, this year’s exhibition is a call for one-of-a-kind postcard designs illustrating star gazing at favorite West Virginia parks or public lands.
Selected postcard artwork will later be used by the Dept. of Tourism to invite travelers to Almost Heaven.
Awards will be given out to first, second and third places in three categories: elementary school, middle school and high school. Winners will receive Blick Art Materials gift cards for $100, $50 and $25.
Artwork can be standard postcard size of 5-by-3½ inches or 6×4¼ inches with a maximum of 11-by-6 and weight no more than 3 lbs.
Painting, printmaking, digital art, drawing, photography and mixed media are all acceptable mediums.
If artwork is framed, it must be suitable to hang on display.
All art work must include a submission form on the back of the artwork. A second, unattached copy of the entry form must be included with every submission.
Artwork and submission form should be dropped off or mailed to: WV Dept. of Arts, Culture and History, Attn: Rachel Keeney, the Culture Center, 1900 Kanawha Blvd. East, Charleston, WV 25305.
An exhibition of selected entries will be on display at the State Capitol in Charleston beginning Jan. 10, 2024.
The submission form is available by contacting exhibits coordinator Rachel Keeney at 04.558.0220 or e-mail [email protected].
