Jerry Frances DeFilippo

JERRY FRANCES DEFILIPPO, 86, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend to many passed away peacefully at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital on Saturday, February 17, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born on Tuesday, August 24, 1937, in Newell, WV., the fourth of seven girls born to Claude Edward and Delma Daughtery Brewer. Jerry was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Loren, who sadly passed on July 8, 2011, and sisters Sue Fisher and Ruth Quick. She will be remembered for the abundance of love she had for her family by her sons Loren (Polly) DeFilippo, Jr., of Cincinnati Joseph DeFilippo of the Cayman Islands, and Michael (Maria) DeFilippo of Pittsburgh, daughters Maria DeFilippo (Scott) of Golden, Colorado, and Kathy (Jack) Hart of Cameron, WV., grandchildren, Tony, Erin, Nicholas, Chris, Brittany, Gianni, Ashley, Ben, Leah, Brooks, Ryan, and L J, and ten great-grandchildren, sisters Jean Hanlon of East Liverpool, Nancy (Richard) Daughtery of Shepherdstown, WV., Carol Lynn Dunlevy of Shepherdstown, WV., and Patti (Sam) Simmons of Bonita Springs, FL. Jerry, a faithful parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Weirton, actively participated in the church community as an RCIA Instructor and Eucharistic Minister. For over 30 years, Jerry was a teacher, most of which was spent teaching first graders at Marland Heights Elementary. After retirement, Jerry was deeply involved with Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. She served her chapter in numerous roles including Chapter President. From 2004 to 2006, she served as ADK’s West Virginia State President and remained active attending state and national conventions until age 84. Family was at the heart of Jerry’s life. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and sister. She was not only a loving mother to her own children but also a guiding presence and source of support to her three younger sisters. Jerry enjoyed gardening, reading, and traveling. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the light and inspiration she brought into the lives of those around her. Friends were received on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, with Fr. Binu Sebastian presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s honor to AlphaDeltaKappafoundation.org. Jerry was buried beside her husband, Loren, in Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
