Alfred Contumelio

ALFRED CONTUMELIO, 84, of Paris, PA, passed away peacefully at the Weirton Medical Center on Friday, June 14, 2024. He was born on September 6, 1939, the youngest of five children born to Luigi and Angela Pate Contumelio. Alfred graduated from Weir High School in 1958 and married the love of his life, Gloria Bruno, on May 12, 1962. The couple’s journey began at a wedding where a young lady from Canonsburg, PA, Gloria’s hometown, married a young man from Weirton, WV. In their 62 years of marriage, Alfred and Gloria were blessed with a son, two daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Alfred dedicated 21 years of his life to working in the coal mines at Starvaggi Industries before transitioning to Weirton Steel, where he retired as a Dispatch Supervisor of the trucking department after 13 years. His service extended beyond his professional life as he also served in the United States Army Reserves. Active in his community, Alfred was a former Hanover Township Supervisor and a member of the American Legion Post 10. His faith was deeply important to him, and he found nourishment at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as an usher at Sunday Mass. Alfred was known for his warm sense of humor and his love of making people laugh. He was a talented woodworker and had a passion for doing body work and painting cars. In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Contumelio and his sisters, Mary Magnone, Rosa Guglielmo, and Josephine DeFelice. He will be remembered with love by his wife Gloria, his son, Louis (Renee) Contumelio; his daughters, Annette (Paul) Newborn and Christina Contumelio; seven grandchildren, Shauna, Joseph and Ella Contumelio, Sierra (Dakota) Jones, Brooke and Andrew Newborn and Nicole (Josh) Wentz; and three great grandchildren, Jackson, Lili and Riot. Visitation was held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 and again on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Liturgy of the Word Funeral Service was held on Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, with Fr. Dennis R. Schuelkens, Jr. presiding. Interment followed at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton.
