DUANE “BEAR” LEMUEL FLUHARTY, 83, of Follansbee, WV, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Trinity Medical Center. Duane was born on October 20, 1940 in New Martinsville, WV. He was the son of the late Charles E. and Hilda (Steel) Fluharty. Duane served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a mail clerk, SP4(T). He retired as a Scarfer at Weirton Steel Corp. Many will remember Duane for being a former member of Post 10 American Legion and the VFW in Weirton, coaching sports with his children, and being an avid Brooke Fan. Duane is survived by his three children: David Fluharty and his wife, Christine, Duane Shay Fluharty, and Kelly Fluharty; six grandchildren: Alexandria (Eric) Ross, Christopher (Erin), Zachary, Ethan, Tyler, and Gavin; three great grandchildren: Alexander, Payton, and Barrett; four bonus great grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Fluharty (Linda) and Charles Larry Fluharty; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee. Interment followed at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, with Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Post 10.
