Brooke Hills Playhouse announces its third production of its 53rd season, “Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical,” which will be presented July 5-7, and 12-14.
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her parents but impresses her teacher, Miss Honey. However, the headmistress of the school, Miss Trunchbull, is mean and hates children, punishing those who don’t abide by her rules. Can an extraordinary girl dare to take a stand and change her own destiny?
“Matilda the Musical” is packed with high-energy in its dance numbers and catchy tunes. It is a veritable girl power romp! It conveys the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life.
Director Emily Hores from Wellsburg has assembled a talented cast to bring this spirited musical to life. Adult roles include Heather Deerfield from Weirton as Miss Trunchbull; Erin Grace from Steubenville as Miss Honey; Jay Keener-Welsch from Wellsburg as Mr. Wormwood; and Karissa Martin from Woodsfield as Mrs. Wormwood.
Two young actresses will alternate in the role of Matilda Wormwood; Riley Kelly from Follansbee and Kami Martin from Woodsfield. Also cast as Matilda’s friends in alternating roles are Susanna Safranski from Steubenville and Ana Parissi from Wintersville as Lavender, and Gregory Safranski from Steubenville and Mark Grace from Steubenville as Bruce.
Other actors and their characters are Sophia Morris from Follansbee as Michael Wormwood; Amy Marosz from Newell as Mrs. Phelps; Benjamin Safranski from Steubenville as The Escapologist; Gretchen Carter from Weirton as The Acrobat; Isaac Cardot from Wellsburg as Doctor/Rudolpho; and Steve Snyder from Wellsburg as Sergei/Children’s Entertainer.
Cast in the School Ensemble are Ivy Anderson from Steubenville, Sumeria Leonard from Wellsburg, Judith Safranski from Steubenville, Waverly Carter from Weirton, Jarek Devault from Weirton, and McKinley Snoke from Avella.
The Teen Ensemble cast consists of Virginia Smart from Avella, Jess Dennis from Colliers, and Kelly Salatino from Weirton.
Behind the scenes, Odessa Hores is assistant director who is also managing costumes, hair, and makeup; Keenan Seditz from Steubenville is the music director; Emma Underwood from Weirton is stage manager; and Nicole Devault from Weirton will manage lighting.
