MONTY DALE SUMMERS, 71, of Follansbee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, after a brief stay at Weirton Geriatric Center. Born on April 16, 1953, in Steubenville, Ohio, Monty was the son of Robert Summers, Sr. and Mable Harris Moore. Monty was a 1971 graduate of Kersley High School in Flint, Michigan. He dedicated many years of his life to working as a machine operator for General Motors, where he built strong friendships and a deep work ethic. Monty found joy in the simple pleasures of life—driving around the Ohio Valley with his beloved wife, Mary, and spending quality time with his family. He was an avid card player, with a particular fondness for the game “31,” often engaging in friendly competition with loved ones. A passionate sports enthusiast, Monty loved debating sports trivia with his grandson, Devon, and was a proud supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events. Family gatherings were at the heart of Monty’s happiness, especially the cherished July 4th picnics that brought everyone together. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Monty was preceded in death by his brother Robert Summers, Jr., and sisters Linda Hinerman and Carla Yeater. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary Molitor Summers whom he married on July 28, 1984, daughters Shelly (Joseph) Bailey of Follansbee, and Autumn(Jonathan) Reed of Brilliant, OH., brother Gene Summers of Steubenville, sisters Sally (Terry) Stickler of Saint Helen, MI., and Alta Summers of Detroit, MI., grandchildren Elija Bailey, Devon Summers and Joshua and Brian Bailey. Friends were invited to visit Monty’s family on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Monty’s request for cremation has been honored.
