John Pavel, Jr.

JOHN PAVEL, JR., 73, of Weirton, WV, passed away on December 16, 2025, at Weirton Medical Center. John was born on June 16, 1952, in Weirton, WV, to the late John S. Pavel, Sr. “Sonny Paul” and Sophie Francis (Koniski) Pavel. John was a graduate of Weir High School and later worked at Weirton Steel as a welder, where he dedicated many years of service until his retirement. A lifetime member of the Oakland Fire Department, where he proudly served for many years and earned the rank of Past President. His dedication to helping others was evident not only through his service but also, in his everyday life. John was always there when someone needed a helping hand. John enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, whether it was hunting or spending weekends at the river club, making homemade wine, and dancing to polka music. He was known for his love of country music, his lively spirit, and his ability to turn any gathering into a celebration. Holidays were always held at the Pavel family home. Above all, John was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Pavel, son, Christopher William Pavel, and his brother, Richard Pavel. He will be remembered will love by his son, John Pavel III; his grandchildren, Matthew Pavel and Nicole (Cody) Jones; and his great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Liliana Jones. He is also survived by his brothers, Teddy (Judy) Pavel and Robert Pavel; his sisters, Geraldine (Dennie) Aracich, Anna Smith, Mary (Tim) Little-Samples, and Paula (John) Lane. Family and friends were received on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, where the funeral service was also held on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Ms. Elijah Dillie officiated.
