Samuel Anthony “Chippy” Pellegrino

SAMUEL ANTHONY “CHIPPY” PELLEGRINO, 65, of Follansbee, WV, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Valley Hospice Care North in Steubenville, Ohio, surrounded by the love of his family. Chippy was born on November 30, 1960, in Weirton, WV the beloved son of the late Italo Anthony “Tom” Pellegrino and Mary Lee (Postlethwait) Pellegrino. He was a lifelong resident of the Follansbee area and a proud graduate of Brooke High School. A man known for his generosity, dedication, and love of his family and community; Chippy was an extremely hard-working man his entire life and with all that he earned he would literally give you the shirt off his back. He had a deep passion for sports, especially WVU. Chippy spent many years giving back by umpiring baseball and officiating basketball, football, and volleyball games and roles he truly enjoyed and took great pride in. Chippy was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Follansbee, where his faith was an important part of his life. He also held memberships in Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity and the Garibaldi Lodge. Always willing to serve others, Chippy was a volunteer firefighter with the Follansbee Volunteer Fire Department for many years, a role that reflected his selfless nature and commitment to helping those in need. Above all else, Chippy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Crook) Pellegrino; his children: Jamie Pellegrino and companion Dean Coburn, Tony (Kearsten) Pellegrino, and Sonya Arnette, all of Follansbee, WV; his brother, Timothy Pellegrino and wife Sherry of Pittsburgh, PA; and his sister, Nikki Thomaselli and husband Mike of Follansbee. Chippy was a proud grandfather to Daxton Coburn, Matthew Pellegrino, Mackenzie Pellegrino, Kayla (Trevor) Nichols, Shiann Hall, Dante, Deondre, and Drake Coburn; and his great grandchildren, Lucas, Bryan, and Nash; He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Gabrielle (Justin) Riggs, Katie Pellegrino, Jenna Floyd, and Ashley Pellegrino; his great-nieces, Stella and Julianna; along with his aunts Velma Pellegrino and Betty Ann Tacozza, and Uncle Butch Postlethwaite, cousins, and many dear friends who will miss him greatly. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with a vigil service following at the funeral home. A Catholic Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, with Rev. Father Gerald Muoka as celebrant. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions be made to Mullenbach Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses, as Chippy had been unable to work in recent years due to illness.
