SHPO Offers Second Chance to Apply for Grant

The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the West Virginia Dept. of Tourism is offering a second opportunity to apply for the 2026 Survey and Planning Grants.
Approximately $90,000 will be awarded from funding appropriated by the U. S. Congress for preservation efforts through the National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund.
The deadline for submission of applications is 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
A complete program description and access to the GoApply online grant application portal are available at: https://wvculture.org/agencies/state-historic-preservation-office-shpo/grants/.
Certified Local Governments (CLGs), state or local government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, for-profit organizations or firms, and educational institutions are eligible to apply.
Eligible projects include architectural and archaeological surveys, preparation of National Register of Historic Places nominations, heritage education programs relating to preservation activities (i.e., hands-on window or masonry workshops), pre-development activities, and development of comprehensive planning documents.
Funding of projects is based on how well the grant application addresses the established priorities stated in the Criteria for Evaluation, which are included in the grant application documents. Grant applications are presented to the West Virginia Archives and History Commission.
All grant monies must be administered in accordance with federal and state requirements.
The announcement of grantees is planned for July , contingent upon receipt of a funding allocation by the National Park Service.
