Mark Edward Sperlazza

MARK EDWARD SPERLAZZA, 69, of Wellsburg, WV passed away May 21, 2026 at Trinity Hospital, Steubenville, OH peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle of cancer. Mark was a lifetime employee of Schiappa Coal/Anthony Mining and employee at Eagle Manufacturing for 13 yrs. He enjoyed officiating football, basketball and volleyball for both the WVSSAC and OHSAA for high school and middle school. Mark was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St John’s Church Men’s Group, Garibaldi and Eagles Club Members, St John’s School Board, St. John’s Parish Council, St John girls and boys basketball coach, St. Paul Boys and Madonna Jr. Don girls basketball coach. He enjoyed playing softball in his earlier years with friends and family. He enjoyed golfing, bike rides, boating, winter ice skating on the creek, sporting events and parties with family and friends. He was proud of his vegetable garden. He loved many memorable beach vacations with family and friends, and enjoyed his long walks with his loyal dog Kobe. His most passionate love was spending time with his grandchildren, children and wife. Mark was born August 16, 1956 in Wheeling, WV to the late John Richard Sperlazza and Doris Jean Ryan Sperlazza. Mark is survived by the love of his life of 47 years, Sharon Kovarik Sperlazza, whom he married November 3, 1978; one son, Ryan Sperlazza and Ashley of Wheeling, WV; two daughters, Marcie Morris and Rob of Wellsburg, WV and Rachael Ferrise and Franco of Follansbee, WV; six grandchildren: Santino and Amelia Sperlazza, Avery and Liam Morris, and Josephine and Rosalene Ferrise; two sisters, Jody and Tom Diserio of Wellsburg and Carolyn and Dan Frio of St. Charles, Il; mother-in-law and father-in-law Margaret and Matt Kovarik, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy and JR Sabo, all of Follansbee; an aunt, Eleanor Rockey of Wellsburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation was held Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Reasner Funeral Home, Wellsburg. Funeral Liturgy with mass was held Monday, May 25, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, with Father Justin Golna Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church in Mark’s Memory.
