JOHN CHARLES UTZ, 90, of Follansbee, WV entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Born September 21, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA a son of the late Edward and Katherine (Lind) Utz. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Lola (Dodson) Utz, and his son, John Edward Utz; a daughter, Susan (Strader) Pardee; and a brother, Edward N. Utz. John “Chuck” graduated from Follansbee High School in 1953. After high school he attended West Virginia University where he was a member of the marching band and played in the Rose Bowl at halftime. In 1955 he enlisted in the Army and served at Fort Jackson and Fort Lee. Upon his return home he worked for his Uncle Fred in the strip mines and sold life insurance until he began his 30-year career with the United States Postal Service in Weirton, WV where he worked as a clerk. Chuck was a devoted member of Kings Creek Union Chapel in Weirton, WV for 20 years. While living in Florida he was a member of the Floral City Baptist Church for 18 years. Most recently he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for 14 years. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Bessie (Strader) Utz at home; three children: Donald (Jane) Utz of Follansbee, WV, David (Dianna) Strader of Burgettstown, PA, and Jeff Strader of Follansbee; a son-in-law, Sherd Pardee of Follansbee; a sister-in-law, Adaline Utz of Follansbee; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 and again on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Pastor Tim Colvin officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Haven of Rest, Colliers, WV. Full military honors will be conducted by the Army Honor Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
