The following is a list of books recently added to the Brooke County Public Library’s collection:
ADULT FICTION
NOBLE BEGINNINGS by L. T. Ryan. In March of 2002, while the eyes of the world focused on Afghanistan, Jack Noble finds himself on the outskirts of Baghdad, Iraq. A Marine in name only, Jack is on-loan to the CIA. Normally an integral part of the team, he finds that he is nothing more than a security detail in Iraq. WE ARE NOT OURSELVES by Matthew Thomas. Eileen encourages her husband to want more: a better job, better friends, a better house, but as years pass it becomes clear that his growing reluctance is part of a deeper psychological shift. An inescapable darkness enters their lives, and Eileen and Ed and their son Connell try desperately to hold together a semblance of the reality they have known, and to preserve, against long odds, an idea they have cherished of the future.

FROMMER’S NEW YORK CITY 2024 by Pauline Frommer. Pauline Frommer’s highly personal guide to her own home city has, in previous editions, twice been named “Best Guidebook of the Year” by the North American Travel Journalists Association. Her book has been New York City’s top-selling guide for the last decade. It’s published in full color, adding dozens of engaging, helpful photos, and color maps to her award-winning advice.
THE PHOTO ARK by Joel Sartore. Sartore is circling the globe, visiting zoos and wildlife rescue centers to create studio portraits of 12,000 species, with an emphasis on those facing extinction. With a goal of photographing every animal in captivity in the world, he has photographed more than 6,000 already and now, thanks to a multi-year partnership with National Geographic, he may reach his goal. This book showcases his animal portraits: from tiny to mammoth, from the Florida grasshopper sparrow to the greater one-horned rhinoceros.

RELUCTANTLY ALICE by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Alice McKinley comes home on the first day of junior high with a list of seven things about seventh grade that stink.
