Mary Elizabeth Salatino

MARY ELIZABETH SALATINO, 91, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Valley Hospice (Liza’s Place) in Wheeling, WV. Mary was born on February 11, 1935, in Avella, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Kendlick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Anthony “Tony” Salatino, her brother, Charles Kendlick; her daughter-in-law, Beth Salatino, granddaughter, Shawna Salatino, and many family members who welcomed her into eternal life alongside Tony. Mary was a graduate of Avella High School and a dedicated employee of Wellsburg Banking and Trust for more than 30 years. She was active and a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Wellsburg, where she served on the Parish and Finance Councils and the Altar and Rosary Society as well as helped on the funeral luncheon committee and contributed her time and talents in countless ways to support her church community. To know Mary was to love her. She was the heart of her family and loved getting together with her sorority sisters at Alpha Pi Sorority, Alpha Theta Chapter. Mary is survived by her loving children: Roxanne (Salatino) Mears of Wellsburg, WV, Mark (Pamela) Salatino of Follansbee, WV, Anthony (Kathi) Salatino of Wheeling, WV, and Janey (Salatino) Darmfall of Summersville, SC. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Melissa (Chuck) Palmer of Follansbee, WV, Jennifer Darmfall (Matthias Bonvehi) of Los Angeles, CA, Megan McKenzie (Tyler Thomas) of Follansbee, Kristen Darmfall (Christian Byrd) of Summersville, SC, Troy (Emilee) Salatino of Wheeling, WV, and Tyler and Emily Fader of Wheeling. She was also blessed with beautiful great-grandchildren, Zeke and Frankie McKenzie, Sophia Salatino, and Aniyah Fader who brought her endless joy. Mary is further survived by her sisters, Margaret Duda, Barbara Rumberger, and Joann Albert, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and staff at Valley Hospice (Liza’s Place) for the exceptional care and comfort they provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice (Liza’s Place) in Mary’s honor. Mary was called home on Tony’s birthday – together again after all these years. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 until the time of a Catholic Funeral Mass, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, with the Rev. Father Justin Golna as celebrant.
