Brooke Hills Playhouse concludes its 53rd season with a deliciously funny Southern-fried farce, “Rex’s Exes,” written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. This outrageous comedy will be presented August 16-18 and 23-25 and is made possible with arrangements through Dramatist’s Play Service, Inc., New York, NY.
“Rex’s Exes” takes us back to Sweetgum, Texas, and to the Verdeen cousins, Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette, who are up to their typical high jinks. One is fighting celebrating her 50th birthday; another thinks she is being haunted by her dead husband Rex’s ghost; and the last is working on her Wide Bride business, which caters to the much wider Texas bride.
Aunt LaMerle is up to her usual shenanigans; Uncle Aubrey is chasing his latest love, 90-year-old Mama Doll, much to her daughter Bitsy’s dismay. Visiting Sweetgum is the Third Lady of Texas and a Cajun bounty hunter to add more surprises to the general mayhem. Gentle Harmony, a local psychic, offers Peaches advice to clear the air of negativity; and Cee Cee Windham keeps the entire tri-county informed on her local cable access program, Hospitality House.
Director Diana Mendel of Wellsburg lauds her cast. “Comedic artistry isn’t always easy to attain, but I truly have never worked with a more creative, expressive, talented cast. You will be laughing nonstop!”
The cast includes Carrie Oliver Schultz from Joffre, PA, as Cee Cee; Sheila Cavalette from Weirton as Gaynelle; ReGina Pino from Upper Sandusky, OH as Peaches; Connie Knollinger-Wendel from Glen Dale as Jimmy Wyvette; and Sherri Hall from Wellsburg as Aunt LaMerle.
