The Brooke County Commissioners approved nearly $42,000 on Tuesday for the county’s fire protection fund, aimed at enhancing resources and funding for new equipment for local fire departments.
The fund, established approximately two years ago, will receive $41,795 as announced in a letter from Gov. Patrick Morrisey.
It’s the second significant allocation in the last two months.
“I believe this brings the total just shy of $8,000 that we will distribute evenly across the 10 fire departments,” Commissioner Tommy Diserio said.
The funding can be used for departments to make upgrades and better their financial situation.
“As you’ve seen in the past, this is the fire funding allocation. The fire departments request funds to either pay up a bill or secure equipment. I believe so far Bethany and McKinleyville have used part of their first allocation, but this helps supplement some of the funding to the fire departments,” Diserio said.
