Mountaineer Food Bank Receives Grant

Mountaineer Food Bank has received a $100,000 grant from the Milan Puskar Foundation in support of its Mobile Pantry and Emergency Food Response initiative, helping ensure West Virginians have access to nutritious food during times of increased need.
The food bank provides food for distribution in Brooke County.
The grant provided critical support during the October–November government shutdown, when food insecurity spiked due to delayed federal assistance and economic disruption.
Some $50,000 of the grant was used to fund additional emergency food distributions and increased food purchases, helping Mountaineer Food Bank quickly respond to the surge in need across its service area.
The remaining $50,000 will support Mountaineer Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry Program throughout 2026, ensuring consistent delivery of fresh produce, shelf-stable items, and protein to communities with limited food access across 48 counties.
“The Milan Puskar Foundation’s support allowed us to respond immediately when families were facing uncertainty and delayed resources,” said Chad Morrison, CEO of Mountaineer Food Bank.
“Their investment not only helped us meet urgent needs during the government shutdown, but it will continue to sustain our Mobile Pantry program so we can reach neighbors across West Virginia all year long.”
Mountaineer Food Bank operates a comprehensive network of hunger-relief programs, including Mobile Pantry distributions, Veterans Table, Child Hunger Programs, Senior Feeding and the Extra Mile home-delivery program.
In 2025, MFB will conduct more than 250 Mobile Pantry distributions across 48 counties, serving more than 200,000 West Virginians.
Mountaineer Food Bank partners with Feeding America, the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and the West Virginia Dept. of Health and Human Resources, along with hundreds of community organizations, veterans groups, county commissions, and corporate partners, to ensure food reaches every corner of its network.
The Food Bank is the largest emergency food provider in the state of West Virginia serving families, children, seniors, veterans, and individuals at risk of hunger.
Annually, MFB distributes 19 million meals to food-insecure people in 48 of the 55 counties.
The Milan Puskar Foundation supports organizations and initiatives that improve the quality of life for West Virginians through education, health, and human services.
