Brooke Hills Playhouse’s season opener, “The Kitchen Witches,” has one more weekend, May 31-June 2, of laugh-out-loud laughter to engage and delight audiences.
Written by Caroline Smith, this hilarious tale features Dolly Biddle and Isobel Lomax, two “mature” cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other.
Four actors of varying ages and stage experience comprise the cast of this funny show.
Heather Deerfield from Weirton plays Dolly Biddle, who indulges herself with anything life has to offer whenever possible, and her imagination knows no bounds. Deerfield last graced the Playhouse stage at the 50th Anniversary Celebration Show. Previously she was a live-in staff member from 1986-1992.
Her most recent roles were Williamina Fleming in “Silent Sky,” Kate Jerome in “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” Hercule Poirot in “Murder on the Orient Express,” and Agnes in “When We Were Young and Unafraid,” all in the San Diego, CA area.
Keri Everhart from Weirton takes on the role of Isobel Lomax, who trained at the Cordon Bleu and enjoyed a successful career with her own TV show, “Busy Izzy.” Everhart was seen last season at the Playhouse as Mary in “Run for Your Wife.” She is actively involved in various community theatre groups in the area.
Matthew Kolb from Follansbee plays Stephen Biddle, son of Dolly and the producer of “The Kitchen Witches.” Kolb first performed at the Playhouse ten years ago when he was 12 in ‘The Outsiders.” Since then, he has performed in multiple locations at a variety of venues. He is currently a mathematics student at West Virginia University.
Playing Robbie the camera chick is Chasity Stevey from Wellsburg. She cleans up the sets, resets props, carries the portable camera around, and is generally efficient. Stevey will be a junior at Brooke High in the fall. She started doing plays at her church and fell in love with it. She has done plays and musicals at Brooke High as well as the Playhouse.
Director Chelsey Barnhart from Follansbee has been at the Playhouse for 20 seasons and has directed shows for 10 years. She couldn’t be prouder of her cast.
“They are the most patient, understanding, go-with-the-flow kind of people. They all work as a team! I’ve caught them many times running lines with each other, helping each other with costumes, and props, discussing parts of the show and getting ideas from one another. They are a stellar cast!”
Municipal Mutual Insurance Company, Reasner Funeral Home, and Innovative Lab Services sponsor our 53rd season and are committed to helping the arts survive in our community.
Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $10 for children. Season passes are also available. Payment is by cash or check.
